Colston Bassett Dairy marked a great success in 2013 with its centenary year. The dairy has been making outstanding cheese for one hundred years and the farming co-operative which was first established in 1913, is still in operation. It was a very special year in the history of Colston Bassett Dairy – the home of traditional Stilton cheese and Shropshire Blue cheese.
The Dairy started following the vision of a local doctor, Dr William Windley, in 1913 - and now today we are still making cheese in the traditional way using milk from local farms – all within 1.5 miles of our dairy in the Vale of Belvoir on the Nottinghamshire/ Leicestershire border. We produce Stilton and also our award-winning Shropshire Blue cheese. Both cheeses are created by our highly skilled, dedicated and experienced team – using the recipe handed down by generations. Colston Bassett is enjoyed around the world by lovers of fine cheese.

Colston Bassett Dairy Tops the Charts Again..! 

The 2014 International Cheese Awards crown Colston Bassett Supreme Champion. This year the awards received 4,443 entries – a record breaking number, from all over the world. Alongside the Supreme Champion, Colston Bassett also took home The Cathedral City Crown Stilton Trophy for the Best Stilton Cheese, The CHR Hensen Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the Best Other Blue Veined Cheese, the title of Champion UK plus Gold for Colston Bassett Shropshire Blue! The Dairy is definitely making a good start to its second one hundred years! 

Colston Bassett Stilton was also named Best British Cheese at the 2013 World Cheese Awards. Shropshire Blue was also recognised – winning a coveted gold award. This adds to the accolades the dairy picked up last year – including a gold three star and gold two star at the Great Taste Awards 2013.
